Alice and the White Rabbit

On my niece's first birthday, I opted to surprise her with an amigurumi of Alice and the White Rabbit from the story "Alice in Wonderland". Well, technically it should be from Frank Beddor's "The Looking Glass Wars" since that's where she got her name, Alyss Heart. But due to the lack of experience and idea at that time on how I could make amigurumis that resemble the lost princess and her royal tutor based on Frank Beddor's description... Yah, I had to compromise and go with the classic.

So for Alice, I used the Alice in Wonderland Doll pattern from Book People Studio.

ALICE
Materials:
Monaco Yarn Shade #1 - Snow (1 skein)
Monaco Yarn Shade #21 -  Rose (1-2 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #60 - Sugar Cookie (3-4 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #42 - Sapphire (3-4 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #100 - Raven (1 skein)
Monaco Yarn Shade #19  - Raincoat (1-2 skeins)
Crochet Hook - I9 (5.5 mm)
Big Black buttons

Black thread
Felt cloth:
           - Black
           - Pink
Fiberfill stuffing
I stayed truthful to the yarn colors except for the hair; I used Raincoat then added a bow to the headband.  Now if you look carefully, you'll notice that the feet didn't decrease into the legs... Why you ask? Well, I didn't entirely read that part and went on and on with the same count of stitches, thus the massive barrel-like legs. The best part about that was I didn't realize the mistake until after I've given it to my niece. The word "Frustrating" could not even begin to cover it. Damn!

Sigh... Oh well, I guess life would not be life without the boo boos. -_-

Now for the White Rabbit, I used this vintage drawing for reference:
With that in mind, I was able to find the Easter bunny pattern by Doreen Rasemann which fitted the drawing's profile perfectly. But there was just one problem... It was in German. Yah.... This birthday gift project for my niece blatantly refused to go down nicely. But since I was just as stubborn, I took that pattern by the collar and translated it with no mercy. Hahaha ^^

TAIL (2x)
(Snow)
*Create a pom-pom with a 5.5 cm diameter
*Attach to the back of the White Rabbit

So that was the basic structure of the White Rabbit. Now for the rest...

SLEEVES (2x)
(Chiffon)
*These are done in sc rows
*I cannot specify the exact number or counts but it should make this shape:
*I do the wide part first then gradually decrease - Decrease on the first and last 2st
*Take note, if you finish the narrow part of the sleeve with the same number of stitches as the opening of the arm, it will most likely not fit. So you have two choices: One, use a bigger hook. Probably, 1-2 sizes bigger. Or two, add more stitches.
*For me, I did the latter option.
*Use Rose and stitch the heart emblems (little "V's") on the sleeve before attaching it to the arm.
*FO and leave enough yarn to stitch the arms on the body. It should be a little lower from the body's opening or where the head should be

TUNIC
(Chiffon)
*These are done in hdc rows
*Recreate the sleeves but with a longer base (Wide part), which reaches halfway of the rabbit's legs, and narrower- Well... Narrow part. Okay, let's just call it the collar part. -_- Don't forget to make two.
*Make sure the collar part of the tunic measures a little more than half of the diameter of the neck. It shouldn't be too tight or too lose when the two parts of the tunic are stitched together. Also, the slanted part should be equivalent to half the diameter of the arm since that's where the tunic will be attached.
*For the front part of the tunic, divide it by 4 spaces and stitch on the emblems like this:

*So like in the sleeves, the little heart are just like "V's", but for the bigger ones I got it from Carolyn Anne's Tiny Hearts pattern
(Click for Pattern)

*Make sure to sl around the edges of the base using Rose and make chains to stitch on as dividers. Do not sl on the part that is shaded grey. There'll be no point since you wouldn't be able to see it when you've attached everything.
*For the back part of the tunic, no need to add any more emblems. Just sl around the base like in the front.
*Now with the parts of the tunic finished, just stitch everything up...
*Start at the edge of the collar part, down and around the arm, then back up. The same goes with the other arm.
*FO, weave in ends and you're done.

RUFFLED COLLAR
(Celeste)
*FLO, 5tr on each sc around the opening of the body
FO, weave in ends
*After the collar's done, stitch the head on the body in BLO.
*I guarantee that this will be quite a challenge since I'm sure the yarn will keep catching on to something. So keep your patience bucket especially full for this part. ^^
Sorry if I cannot specify anything more about the outfit. I never really got the chance to jot it all down so I can only give these instructions. I hope it's not too vague... V_V

But the good news is I have the complete pattern for the pocket watch. ^^

  3. The pocket watch is for a toddler costume - is this a 4 ply wool or a thinner cotton wool - I cant find Monaco - Also i was thinking of doing the circle on a small wooden ring to make it sturdier - what do you think - p.s. love the entire outfit
